Meerut: The Uttar Pradesh road ways, which is running into losses, has decided to increase the bus fares.

Its murmuring has already been started in the ministry, which claims that the states’ transport department is unable to meet the expectations in terms of generating revenues despite an increase in the number of buses.

Meeting held at the headquarters last week has brought to the fore that roadways is facing heavy loss. Although, it has managed to increase its revenue, but at the same time, its expenditure has also gone up as compared to income. Margin of loss is also increasing.

According to the report, performance of Meerut, Noida, Moradabad, Hardoi, Gaziabad has significantly increased. Income graph has also increased but various costs including maintenance of buses has raised the expenditure in comparison with income.

Roadways had not increased its fare despite frequent hike in diesel prices is also believed to be one of the reasons behind the loss. While taking the matter seriously, State Transportation Minister Manpal Singh has said that bad condition of streets is also a reason due to which maintenance and operation of buses are being affected.
