Rae Bareli: The AIIMS Rae Bareli project, which was in limbo for last several years, now seems to pick up pace as the Centre has begun to take measures in  setting up of the prestigious hospital in Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s constituency.

A flurry of activities can be seen at 10 Janpath as on the direction of Gandhi, special officer of National Advisory Council (NAC) Dhiraj Srivastava met Rae Bareli District Magistrate Dr Roshan Jacob on Saturday to discuss the pending AIIMS project along with other central schemes and asked him to send the proposal of the project derailed since four years to the Centre.

Meanwhile, the Akhilesh Yadav led Uttar Pradesh government has marked the land for the construction of the hospital. The Parliament had already given its nod to the Rs 823 crore proposal in 2008. However, due to disinterest of the former Mayawati government, land could not be made available for the project.

Dhiraj Srivastava said, the construction of AIIMS will begin soon after the approval of the land. He also discussed setting up of a spy park in Barharwa and opening a FM radio centre in the city. Issues related to community centre built on MP fund, construction of homes under a pilot programme for the BPL card holders and plans of setting up a rail coach factory and RDA were also discussed.

FM radio proposal stuck in deep water

The proposal for setting up a FM radio centre in Alimia colony in Rae Bareli was prepared six years ago. FM Managing Director had assured to set up a centre very soon but in vain.

Now, Rae Bareli DM Dr Roshan Jacob said, “the representatives of the MP had approached the state government with the proposal four years ago. 100 acres of land was required for setting up of the radio centre which could not be achieved and as a result, the proposal could not be sent to the Centre. We will again try to search for the land after which we will send the proposal.”
