This time, the Planning Commission, which is presided by none other than the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has praised the Gujarat model.

In one of its reports which have been published, the Commission has mentioned that in how the manufacturing sector has flourished in Gujarat under a thriving environment.

The report assumes significance since those laws as well as rules and regulations of Gujarat have been analyzed, the companies had to deal with before coming up with its plants and projects before getting them operational.

Had the procedures been complex, the companies won’t have invested in the state. Manufacturing industry is essential for any state as it draws a number of educated youth there.

In this report, the state have been ranked on the basis of financial and tax laws, labour laws, fundamental facilities, land and housing laws and environmental rules.

There are three more BJP-ruled states in this category apart from Gujarat – Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Besides, states like Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Kerala, Haryana and Tamil Nadu also excel good on this front.

In the report, it was mentioned that Gujarat is the number two contributor to the domestic GDP. According to the report, in the year 2011-12, Gujarat’s contribution to the domestic GDP was 13.7 percent.

Also, the report has been published at a time when a political storm of sorts has been created over a report published in the website of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion , which is under the government of India.

The land acquisition policy of Gujarat has also been patted in this report. It’s, however, a separate issue that Anand Sharma dismissed this report later.
