Lucknow: Upset over the withdrawal of his security cover by the Uttar Pradesh government, Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma on Friday accused the state government of indulging in a political vendetta.

“I was surprised to find out that my security cover was withdrawn without notifying me, Verma said while talking to reporters at his residence on Friday.

“I am entitled for Z-category security cover and the Central government has provided me security personnel from the CISF. Earlier my Z-security cover was lowered to Y- category and now it is completely withdrawn,” the Union minister added.

Blaming SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for the withdrawal of his security, Verma said, “The SP chief is trying hard to malign the government headed by his son.”

The minister, however, avoided making any critical comment on Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav saying that he is his nephew.

Beni Prasad Verma was an old political associate of Mulayam Singh Yadav and co-founder of the Samajwadi Party.
