The man – Suraj Prasad Prajapati, a resident of Bharatmata Mandir, Birhani Road, was rushed off to hospital with severe burn injuries.
It is learnt that Prajapati, in order to seek information regarding his missing daughter, was making frequent visits to Philkhana police station, only to gulp disappointment, as the cops never co-operated with him.
His 22-year-old daughter is missing since May 13 and he went to police station to enquire about the progress in the police investigation.
This nonchalant attitude of the police drove him to the point of utter frustration. More salt was rubbed on his wounds, when the police raised questions on his daughter’s character.
Unable to bear the ignominy, Prajapati went for the extreme. Drenching himself with kerosene, he set self on fire.
Prajapati’s relatives claimed that though he named four persons as accused, the police never filed any case in this connection. Instead, the accused often kept on threatening to kill him.
