Mumbai, Jan 13 (Agencies): An urban terror combat training centre for the police will be set up at Baramati district in Pune. It will be the first of its kind in Maharahtra and is being set up in the wake of persisting terror threats in cities.

"The state has no such training centre for the police who would get advanced training to combat urban terror," Director General of Police D Sivanandan said on Thursday, in a release issued by the State Home Department.

The decision was taken in a meeting attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister R R Patil, Sivanandan and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Umeshchandra Sarangi here.
Pawar assured Rs 20 crore for the training centre along with matching funds from the Centre, the release said.

Maharashtra government has already set up Force One, a counter-terror unit, as the National Security Guard (NSG) had reached Mumbai nine hours late during 26/11. The NSG also has a team in Mumbai after the incident.
