Ahmedabad: Retorting to the question on visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, United States Consul General Peter Haas on Tuesday refused to comment on the matter by saying America does not comment on ‘private visa matters’.

Peter was speaking to media after participating in a graduation ceremony of Self-Employed Women’s Association.

Notably, Modi was denied visa in 2005 in the wake of his alleged involvement in 2002 communal riots. At that time, the Chief Minister had described the US stand as ‘insult to India’.

Meanwhile, when asked to comment on the Gujarat-US relations, Peter said, “There is good cooperation as many companies have already set up plant in India’s western state Gujarat.

He was quick to add, “Our relationship can be judged from the fact that Gujrati was the first Indian language to be included in the US census.
