US wanted to blow the Moon with N-bomb

Washington: In a bizarre revelation, it has been said that world's most powerful nation, US, had planned to blow up the Moon with nuclear bomb. However, the plan was backtracked after objections raised by US Army. US Army had then expressed that if the mission failed, it would have dangerous consequences for the Earth.

An English newspaper has claimed that in its race to conquer space, the US had planned to blow up the Moon with atom bomb in 1950. Though, the plan could not ever be implemented.

According to the newspaper, it was a top secret mission, which was named as - Study of Lunar Research Flight. Its coded name was- Project A119. According to the plan, it was decided that by blowing up the Moon, its residual matter in the form of dust, smoke etc could have been used for scientific studies. The charge of this mission was given to a young scientist who was asked to executed it in a very secret manner.

According to the plan, US was to launch a missile towards the Moon which had to travel a distance of 238000 mile before blowing up the lone natural satellite of the Earth. US scientists had prepared an atom bomb instead of hydrogen bomb. Hydrogen bomb happens to be much heavier than atom bomb. But this mission was rejected by the US army.

JPN: If you are going to publish drivel, dont be surprised when your credibility takes a nosedive. Go back and read the source documents. For a (large) fee, I would be pleased to help you with words longer and more complex than "and " or "but".

I agree with M, this article is bit ridiculous. From what I've heard, they wanted to detonate a bomb on the moon to show the Russians what we could do. But they didn't intend to blow up the moon!
