Such has been the magnitude of the party’s pathetic performance in the state that it’s now sitting on a corner, completely clueless. Out of 80 candidates, who were contesting the polls, 34 could not get even 50,000 votes. The morale of party has gone so down that it is looking helpless to find any way out to emerge from the present situation.

The party could not get even 25,000 votes in constituencies like Ghazipur, Ghosi, Hardoi, Lalganj, Muzaffarnagar, Sambhal, Azamgarh, Badohi, Itawa and Santkabirnagar.

In Bahraich, Congress MP Commando Kamal and Shrawasti MP Vinay Pandey also failed to bag even 25,000 votes.

In Moradabad, Congress’ Noor Bano got 19,000 votes and Sudha Rai in Balia received 13,000 votes. Besides, Sanjay Singh’s wife Amrita, who contested from Sultanpur lost her deposits as she got 41,000 votes.

The Congress’ decision to not field candidates against Samajwadi Party strongholds of Kannuj and Mainpuri didn’t work for the party.

The party indeed requires to work from the scratch and introspection is the need of the hour. The party’s poor performance got underlined by one more fact that even Congress’ Uttar Pradesh unit chief Nirmal Khatri finished fourth in Faizabad.
