Lucknow: As uncertainty shrouds over conducting the urban local body elections by November 15, the State Election Commission has decided to file a review petition in the High Court. The Commission will seek some respite from the court to complete the election process.

Meanwhile, the Commission has called for a meeting on Sunday, where the uncertainty on the issue of notification by October 31 would be discussed.

The Allahabad High Court issued notice to the Commission and has ordered to issue the election notification by October 31 and also to hold the elections by November 15 as per the Census -2011.

State Election Commissioner Rajendra Bhonwal said, “We are ready for polls, but holding elections in such a short time would be impossible. It will require at least 45 days. So we will file a review petition in the High Court to seek some respite and extending the date.”

In the wake of the urban local body elections, he has held a meeting with the District Magistrates of Kanpur and Shahjahanpur. On Sunday, a meeting would be held which is likely to be attended by Principal Secretary Urban Development, Director of Local Bodies and Director of the Census 2011.
