Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday arrested four members of an inter-state gang allegedly involved in smuggling of illegal firearms.

 Acting on a tip-off, a Special Task Force team arrested Shabbir Ahmad, Mohammad Sikander, Sankatha Kumar Singh and Gurudutt Tiwari from Ambedkar Nagar district, STF officials said.

 Seven pistols and cartridges were recovered from their possession, they said.

 The STF officials said the gang, run by Shabbir, allegedly used to supply illegal firearms from Bihar to different districts in UP.

 During interrogation, Shabbir, said to be the leader of the gang, told police that he had sold more than 100 firearms in UP, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the officials said.
