Sitapur (UP): Seven policemen engaged in rescuing accident victims on a national highway in the district were among 8 persons killed on Tuesday after being mowed down by a truck.
   
Drivers of two trucks were also killed in the mishap. A truck turned turtle in Ataria area on the highway and the policemen had rushed to save the accident victims when another truck coming from the opposite direction lost control and rammed into them in the wee hours, police said.
   
Besides, both truck drivers, six policemen, including station officer Ataria, Panna Lal Saroj, sub-inspector Prem Narain Misra, three constables Ravi Tiwari, Ram Kumar Rawat, Rajnath and a homeguard Awdesh Gupta were killed on the spot.
   
Three persons were referred to trauma centre Lucknow where two including a policeman died during treatment, Additional Superintendent of Police, North, Balendu Bhushan Singh said.
