Allahabad: Hailing the Andhra Pradesh High Court judgement quashing the 4.5 percent sub-quota for minorities, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Monday asked the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre to apologise for its "unconstitutional action".

"We welcome the High Court judgement scrapping the 4.5 cent sub-quota for minorities.

"The verdict is a severe indictment of the policy of Muslim appeasement pursued by the UPA government," VHP International Working President Praveen Togadia said in a statement here.

"The government should immediately withdraw its notification regarding the quota and apologise to the nation for its unconstitutional action," he said.

Holding that the Centre acted in a "casual manner", the Andhra Pradesh High Court quashed the 4.5 percent sub-quota for minorities carved out of 27 percent OBC reservation –a verdict that may affect admissions already made in central educational institutions such as IITs.
