New Tehri:  If things augur well, Tehri Lake may soon be visible on the world tourism map. Chief Minister, Uttarakhand, Ramesh Pokhriyal sanctioned Rs 5 crore to water sports training centre on the eve of Tehri festival here on Thursday.

The Union Government has also included it under its ambitious project through which it intends to allocate funds to the tune of Rs 250 crore to develop Tehri Lake a world-class tourist destination.

Union Minister of Tourism Subodh Kant Sahay has given his nod to the project. In the first phase, Rs 10 crore has been allocated from the joint efforts of Centre and State Government.

On the request of District Magistrate Radhika Jha, Principal Secretary Tourism convened a high level meeting in the regard. In the meeting, it was decided that Koti will be developed as the main centre for water sports training centre.

Union Government has given its approval to Tourism Ministry to increase the water sports activities in the lake.
Principal Secretary Tourism Rakesh Kumar said, “The aim of government is to raise tourism in the state and increase employment opportunities.”
