"Harish Rawat is deliberately not taking steps to stop illegal mining so that his chosen ones could benefit from the trade," BJP national spokesman Anil Baluni told reporters here.

Alleging that illegal mining is causing losses worth crores of rupees to the state exchequer, Baluni said the Chief Minister should stop playing into the hands of the mining mafia and take effective steps to put an end to illegal mining in the interest of the state.

He also accused the Chief Minister of having nothing to do with the development of the state with "inaugurations of shops, renaming of roads and schools keeping him too busy".

The BJP leader also predicted that Rawat will turn out to be the last Congress chief minister of the state as "Bahdaur Shah Zafar was the last emperor to the Mughal empire".

Noting that frequent dharnas by state Congress leaders at Jantar Mantar was not going to help Uttarakhand, Baluni  advised Rawat to present his viewpoint on state specific issues before the Centre in a positive way.

"Frequent dharnas by Congress men at Jantar Mantar is of no use.

If issues in the state's interest are raised before the Centre in a positive way by the chief minister, things can be resolved more easily," BJP national spokesman Anil Baluni told reporters here.

Questioning the rationale behind frequent dharnas by Congress leaders in New Delhi ever since Narendra Modi government took over at the Centre, Baluni said where were they when the industrial package given by Vajpayee government to Uttarakhand was withdrawn by the UPA or when a large tract of land in Uttarkashi was declared an eco-sensitive zone.

"They (Congressmen) did not raise these issues when the UPA was in power but ever since NDA came back to power they stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar every now and then," he said.

Calling it a waste of time, Baluni said the Modi government is sensitive to the problems of Uttarakhand and Chief Minister Harish Rawat should present his viewpoint on state specific issues before the Centre in a positive way.
