Dehradun: Alleging Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank of presenting wrong details related to his educational certificates and date of birth, the state Congress unit has launched a scathing attack on the BJP stalwart.

Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Harak Singh Rawat has written a letter to Nishank asking him to come clean on his PhD and other degrees. Rawat expressed apprehensions over the possession of a fake PhD degree by the CM. He asked the CM to resign on moral grounds.

The Congress leader claimed that a sharp contrast in the details mentioned by Nishank in his nomination papers, passports and books written by him have stoked up the controversy. Rawat has asked the CM to clarify the issue in the coming two days.

Speaking to reporters, Rawat said he had sought information on various academic details of Nishank through RTI Act as the party feared that the CM was in the possession of fake certificates.

He alleged that although the CM has written about Uttar Pradesh Board High School, Inter certificate, Degree in Shastri from Sampurnanand University, MA degree in Garhwal University at many places, but there is no mention of the year and topics.

Rawat alleged Nishank of furnishing wrong details in the nomination papers he had filed in 2007. He further added that the Chief Minister should also clarify the details of his honorary doctorate degree.

Giving further information, Rawat said, “Nishank’s date of birth in the passport and nomination paper is July 17, 1959, whereas in his books it is written August 15, 1959.”

If the Chief Minister refuses to clarify on the questions asked, the issue will be taken up to the Governor and Chief Election Commission and would demand for the cancellation of his nomination, Rawat added.
