Uttarkashi: After an unsuccessful search of Himalayan snow leopard in the area, the Forest department authorities have now decided to locate the endangered species in the Cold Desert area (350m above the sea level) of the Gangotri National Park.

The department official decided to widen their search operation after tracing the foot prints of snow leopard in this area. Considering these foot marks as potential lead for the search operations, the Forest officials have decided to install four well equipped sophisticated cameras.

Earlier in April, a snow leopard was traced in Malari region of the Chamoli district. But since then not a single leopard has been spotted.

Chief Forest Conservator, RBM Rawat, during a visit to Gangotri National Park first saw the foot marks of the snow leopard. Following which the plan was prepared to capture new images.

Dr IP Singh, (DFO/warden Gagotri national park) said, “There is a potential chance of finding snow leopard in the area and so we have started our preparations to click photographs.”
