Agastyamuni (Rudrapragya): Uttarakhand Parliamentary Affairs & Drinking Water Minister Prakash Pant’s decision to pacify protesting unemployed youths proved costly for him as he had to run for his life after the protestors attacked the Minister and his entourage.

The incident occurred when Prakash Pant was on his way to participate in a programme in Ukhimath. As his convoy reached Purana Daval via Agastyamuni, the unemployed youth doing a sit-in slept before the Pant’s cavalcade.

Minister came out of his vehicle to pacify the agitators but the youth started raising slogans. When the security staff intervened it led to scuffle. They manhandled the security personnel who came to the rescue. The police somehow managed to escort the minster away from the spot.

Parliamentary secretary Asha Nautiyal and vice president of media advisory committee Ajendra Ajay were also accompanying the minister.

Terming the incident as unfortunate, Prakash Pant said, “The youths should have presented their views in a democratic way.”
On the other hand, the protestors accused the minister’s men of manhandling them. The protestors forced the market to shut down in protest and also burnt an effigy of the government at the local bus stand.

Deputy Superintendent of Police R Dimri later informed that the protestors have registered complaint which is being investigated.
