Srinagar (Garhwal): Six labourers were killed and 36 others injured after an under construction bridge collapsed at 3 am Sunday at Chauraas in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

The incident occurred when the structure collapsed while concrete was being poured into the steel frame of the bridge.

A disaster management team rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations. Rescue operations have been suspended since and the debris was cleared.

The injured have been taken to Base hospital in Srinagar Garhwal.

The bridge which was under construction from past six years collapsed when the work of construction was underway.

Newly elected Chief Minister of  Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna, who visited the site with Congress minister Harish Rawat. He declared a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the family of deceased labourers, Rs 50000 for seriously injured and Rs 25 000 for injured labourers.
