Heavy rainfall in Uttarkashi led to increase in the water level of Assi-Ganga river, stranding four children who were playing at the river bank.

JP Upreti, Police Official, Uttarkashi said that the child was bathing in the river along with his three friends when the heavy rainfall caused the river to become swollen.

“The three other children escaped while he was carried away around 100 metres due to strong currents, he said. The child was brought to safety and is out of danger,” he said.

“He was bathing in Assi Ganga when he was suddenly swept away. After being swept away, he was stuck here in the middle and then he was rescued by the police with the help of fire service people,” he added.

The child was spotted between the rocks by some women working nearby and the police was thereby informed.

The city witnessed bout of heavy rainfall and cloudburst on Saturday leading to cut-off villages and wash away of roads, bridges at several places.
