Garhwal: Continuous landslides in the bordering areas of the Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand has created severe food crisis, both for common people as well as the army men deployed in the region.

Reflecting the problem, the priests and traders have returned back to Uttarkashi as the inflow of pilgrims to the Gangotri Dham for the past 16 days has stopped due to landslides. The main roads leading to all Dhams except Yamunotri continued to remain disrupted on Monday.

Debris is lying along the roads near Bhatwari and Maneri that has led to blockage of the movement of vehicles.

The lack of necessary food items are being felt at Harshil army depot as well.

The supply of food items and other necessary goods has come to a halt. Villagers have been forced to travel on foot to reach Bhatwari, Maneri and Uttarkashi.

Several people are using mules to ferry food items, gas cylinders and other goods. Rishikesh-Badrinath route could not be opened for the third day due to continuous landslides.
