Dehradun: Providing relief to the common man, teachers and other employees, the Uttarakhand government on Tuesday gave its nod to several proposals. Apart from forming three Directorates for primary, secondary education and higher education, the government has decided to provide subsidised foodgrain to people above poverty line in the state.

The APL people would now be entitled for 10 kg of wheat and rice each at subsidised rates from June1.

According to sources, Wheat will be given at Rs 4 per kg and rice at Rs 6 per kg, which will increase the burden of the state government by Rs 21 crore. “The state shall take the food from the open market”, sources added.

The Cabinet also agreed on the formation of Directorate for primary, secondary and higher education. The Directorate General, who generally will be an IAS, will supervise these departments.

Apart from it, the government has also regularised the ad hoc lecturers employed with eight degree colleges.

The multiplexes in the state have also been completely freed of entertainment tax for the next five years.

The cabinet in the meeting also gave approval to certain other reforms with an eye on the development of the state.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also agreed to hike the pay scale of Chairman, Vice President and other members of the Public Service Authority to Rs 90,000, Rs 80,000 and Rs 67,000 respectively.
