Ahmedabad: Ringing alarm bells for the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Congress veteran and former CM Shankar Singh Vaghela has launched a crusade against him in collaboration with state leader Arjun Modhwadia and leader of Opposition in state Assembly Shakti Singh Gohil.

Vaghela has been concentrating on his home advantage in Kutch and northern region to replenish his establishment and win back the confidence of voters which had drifted to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Congress has been utilising every opportunity of targeting Modi on issue of cow slaughter, land allocation to favourite industrialists on meager prices, corruption in governmental projects and the report submitted by the Lokayukta and Comptroller and Auditor General appointed by Governor Dr Kamla which accuses the state government of Rs 26.500 crores corruption.

Vaghela has been eying the controversial issues to launch a public campaign against Modi to replace him in the Assembly elections lined up in 2012. In order to boost the spirits of the veteran leader before his Palanpur rally, the Congress state unit took out a massive car procession from the Mahatma Temple in Gandhinagar.

After being appointed as the Chairman of the state campaign committee, he launched his Satyagraha against Modi’s Sadbhavna fast to intensify his crusade against Modi.

Vaghela intends to mobilise the local masses in Kutch region against Modi for carrying out land acquisition at meager prices for the industrialists.

The Congress has been out of power in Gujarat since 15 years and earlier it had planned to make a comeback by targeting Modi on Godhra tragedy and Gujarat riots before November 2002 elections but the effort went in vain.
