(Jagran News Network): It is the cutest day in the whole Valentine’s week. It is the day of the cuddly, chubby bear. It is the day of stuffed toys, sweet nothings, mushy musings and lots of love. It is primarily a woman’s day because nothing delights her more than the gift of stuffed toys. She may be of any age, but a cute little teddy as gift, brings out the child in her, which is mostly forgotten in her daily chafe with life.

Few of us know that teddy bear, found in every house today, was named after American President Theodore Roosevelt who was affectionately known as Teddy. A story is generally linked with it. Once, President Theodore Roosevelt and some of his friends went on a hunting trip to Mississippi. After hours of searching, Roosevelt and his group did not come across any wild animal. Finally, the group tracked down and surrounded a helpless bear. One of the guides asked the President to shoot the bear so that he could win a hunting trophy. The President refused, and news reporters throughout the country spread the story of Roosevelt's kind act.

A cartoonist named Clifford Berryman drew a cartoon based on Roosevelt's rescue of the bear. When a shopkeeper in Brooklyn saw the cartoon, he decided to make toy bears to sell in his shop. His wife stuffed some bears with a little sewing and imagination. When they sold out in a few hours, he decided to send Roosevelt a bear and get his endorsement. Roosevelt agreed and Michtom, the shopkeeper along with a large wholesale company, Butler Brothers, began to create stuffed teddy bears and sell them everywhere.

Make this year’s Teddy day special by gifting your loved one a cute little teddy and say how much you care.
