A confident BJP has left no stones unturned in making Modi’s win more special from the holy city following months of rigorous campaign.

The saffron party has also installed six huge LED screens, which would broadcast live televised coverage of the results, at several important points in the city.

Varanasi took the center stage in the 2014 Lok Sabha election with high profile candidates in the fray from this Lok Sabha constituency.
Modi has been challenged by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal and Congress’ leader Ajay Rai.

Varanasi has always been considered as a communally sensitive area and keeping this in mind, the Election Commission has banned any victory marches in the city and the entire state of Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 representatives to the Lower House.

More than 50 people lost their lives in communal clashes between Hindus and Muslims in Muzaffarnagar region of western Uttar Pradesh last year.

With the exit polls clearly suggesting a thumping victory for the NDA, it would be interesting to see who the people of Varanasi chose as their representative. It would not be wrong to say that the outcome of this Lok Sabha constituency is going to have a major impact on the entire picture of national politics.
