The flood water streaming into the houses has created trouble for the residents staying near the river bank. People residing near the temple area have left their homes for taking shelter at safer places.

Residents claim that rains in the last four to five days have led to increase in water levels of river Ganga by 20 feet.

“Even ferry services in the river Ganga have stopped since past week due to fear of drowning,” a priest and a resident of Varanasi, Prabhu Sahrani said.

“People living in rented houses near the temple area have left their homes to move to safer places. Boats used for travelling to the other side of the river basin have been stopped since one week. Temples are also being inundated with river water,” he said.
