Indore: People from all quarters have poured in the streets protesting against the compulsory use of helmets for two-wheeler drivers here. After various organisations and lawyers, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress Party too have joined the protests against the helmet drive.

After use of helmets was made compulsory, lawyers had staged protests. A drive against helmet use was launched in city, taking out various rallies, distributing pamphlets and taking signatures.

Now, the Congress is seeking support from business organisations for a half-day bandh in the city on May 30. The BJP leaders who were initially silent on the issue have also come out seeing the Congress trying to win the sympathy of general public.

BJP city president Shankar Lalwani on Friday stormed the IG office with his team to protest against the use of helmets.

However, IG cleared that the order will be followed as it was issued from the police headquarters.

Meanwhile, Indore’s organisation, Jantantra, staged a rally with the supporters and also distributed pamphlets against the helmet use.
