Mumbai: It was the legendry singer Asha Bhosle’s licensed pistol with which her daughter Varsha allegedly killed herself on Sunday night. The pistol had gone missing.  

In a statement given to police investigating team in connection with Varsha’s suicide case,Asha Bhosle asserted that the pistol with which her daughter had allegedly killed herself was registered in her name and it had gone missing few years ago. Asha went on saying that she doesn’t know how and when did Varsha get the pistol.

The legendary singer further told the police that Varsha was suffering from depression and out of social activities. She was undergoing treatment by Pune-based doctor. Earlier, Varsha had attempted suicide twice by consuming sleeping pills in the year 2008 and 2010.

Police has also recorded the statement of Asha Bhosle’s sister Lata Mangeshkar, Rachna Shah, servant Dipali Mane and Lata’s driver. Now, police will register doctor’s statement.
According to the sources, Bhosle’s family has two more pistols. Asha’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar belongs to .32 bore pistol, while Asha’s son carries .45 bore pistol.

Varsha, who used to work as a freelance journalist, was divorced from sports journalist Hemant Kenkre. She would write columns for web portal, the Sunday Observer and the Gentleman magazine. She had also sung songs for some Hindi and Marathi films and performed in some concerts with her mother.
