Chandigarh: Vehicles not having front and rear lights will now have to be equipped with reflectors as the state government has made fixing of the device mandatory for such vehicles.

In the wake of increasing number of road accidents, vehicle owners have been asked to get reflectors fixed before onset of winter, Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar said.

"It is unfortunate that almost 3500 persons lose their lives every year due to road accidents. The government is taking adequate steps to streamline the road safety measures," the minister said.

He said government is making efforts on priority basis to educate people and generate awareness regarding road safety rules.
