Sathasivam has said that the verdict will be given before April 25 since his tenure as the Chief Justice of India (CJI) ends on the same date.

The Supreme Court had commuted death penalty of three of the prime convicts in the case, Perarivalan, Murugan and Santhan, to life imprisonment.

Following the Apex Court’s judgment, the state government passed a special resolution in the Assembly to release seven people convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

However, the Centre then filed a petition before the SC following which the court stayed the release of all the seven convicts.
