Born in Uttar Pradesh on July 20, 1950 and an NSD (National School of Drama) graduate, Naseeruddin has starred in flims like Mirch Masala, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Masoom, Ijaazat, A Wednesday, The Dirty Picture, 7 Khoon Maaf and others. His international projects include Monsoon Wedding (2001) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), where he shared his screen space with Hollywood actor Sean Connery.

His parallel films include Nishant, Aakrosh, Sparsh, Mirch Masala, Albert Pinto ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai, Trikal, Bhavni Bhavai, Junoon, Mandi, Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!, Ardh Satya, Katha, and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro.

He started his career with Nishant in 1975. He became active in mainstream Bollywood cinema with the 1980 film Hum Paanch and was much noted for his role in the film MASOOM in 1983.

The actor has won numerous accolades throughout his career and has been conferred with both the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan civilian awards for his contributions to Indian cinema.

Best known for art cinema, the actor has been successful in commercial films also. He is one of the few actors of the industry, who performs with equal elan in both art cinema and commercial cinema.

He has portrayed a diverse range of exciting characters - from a doting dad in Masoon, to a married man falling for another women in ijaazat, to the womanising superstar in The Dirty Picture. Shah always has been a delight to watch.
