"He passed away at 2.45 in the night (Sunday night)," Rima Amapurkar told IANS.

"His cremation will take place in his hometown Ahmed Nagar tomorrow. Today his body will be kept at the Bhaidas Auditorium for the people to pay their last respect," his daughter said. Sadashiv, 64, is survived by his wife and three daughters.

After the news brokeout, Twitter started flooding with 'RIP' messages by his fans and celebs. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan posted on facebook, “And this morning waking up to the very sad news of the passing away of Sadasiv Amrapurkar .. a fine talent, a gentleman, a wonderful colleague, we worked together in films .. prayers and condolences .. ishwar se prarthna hai ki unki aatma ko shanti mile .. !!” He tweeted "When a colleague suddenly passes away there is a sudden vacuum, of times spent together, of acknowledgement of their work ..”

Actor Anupam Kher wrote, “I am so saddened to know about the demise of a fine human being & a wonderful actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar. He was a kind & a learned man. RIP”

In his long career, he has won two Filmfare awards - in 1984, he won the award for the best supporting actor for "Ardh Satya" and in 1991, the best villain trophy for his portrayal of a ruthless eunuch in "Sadak". His other work includes "Mr. India", "Aankhen", "Ishq", "Coolie No. 1" and "Gupt: The Hidden Truth". Later, the actor shifted his focus on Marathi movies. His last Hindi film was "Bombay Talkies".

Recently rumours about his death started to appear on social media websites after some tweets about the same started doing the rounds. Actor Tusshar Kapoor too tweeted, "RIP Sadashiv Amrapurkar." Confusion prevailed as hospital officials reportedly told some journalists that the actor had passed away even as family members claimed that Sadashiv was alive and improving.
