Haridwar: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has decided to carry forward former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti’s ‘Samagra Ganga Andolan’ to save river Ganga.

VHP leader Ashok Singhal met Bharti on Thursday and extended the organisation’s support to the movement. They had a closed-door meeting for about half-an- hour.

According to sources, “Both the leaders discussed the draft on Ganga River.”

Bharti had started her indefinite fast in Divya Seva Prem Mission on the banks of Ganga River on May 10. The firebrand leader has been demanding that Ganga River should be declared a national river and team should be set up for the review of hydropower projects on Ganga River.

Bharti broke her fast after an assurance by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. She, however, said to continue her Samagra Ganga movement against the Central Government.

Bharti will head to Delhi after June 30 to decide her next course of action against the Central Government.
