New Delhi: The fairer sex seems to be hogging all the limelight in the MCD elections. Filled with vigour and enthusiasm they can be seen campaigning in every nook and corner of the city.  Women who were confined to the household chores have now come out in the open rooting for their favourite candidates.

The increased participation of the women has been due to the trifurcation of the MCD and 50 percent reservation for them in the corporation.  However, a congress party worker Avnish from Hauz Khas believes that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is behind the empowerment of women in the capital.

With the Election Commission vowing to act tough on violation of model code of conduct, the candidates prefer door to door campaigning as a safe option to woo the voters.
