New Delhi: Riding on a superb all-round show by Harbhajan Singh, Punjab defeated Maharashtra by two wickets in their Vijay Hazare trophy knock out round match at Palam Cricket Ground on Monday.

With this resounding victory, Punjab has stormed into the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Opting to bat first, Maharashtra put 186 runs on the board in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Punjab achieved the target losing eight wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Harbhajan Singh performed remarkably to propel Punjab to a scintillating win. Bhajji scalped three wickets by giving just 35 runs in 10 overs.

Chasing a defendable 186 runs target, Punjab were off to an awful start and lost their top six batsmen at a meager score of 69 runs.

India’s turbanator again performed as a rescuer and scored a blistering unbeaten 79 runs to clinch the thrilling victory.

Harbhajan was involved in a sturdy 86 runs partnership with TS Kohli for the seventh wicket. Kohli scored 46 runs with the help of four boundaries.

For Maharashtra, the prolific batsmen NS Paradhkar (42), KM Jadhav (41), HK Khandwal (36), AR Ghavne (23) and SH Yadav remained unbeaten on 22 runs.
