Bhiwani: Champion boxer Vijender Singh is all set to tie the nuptial knot with Delhi girl Archana on May 17.

Archana is working with British High Commission and her family, which is basically from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, is active in politics.

Presently, Vijender is in Australia to participate in the Arafura International Boxing Competition and is expected to return on May 14. Both the families have given their consent for the wedding.

The engagement will take place in Vijender’s Kulawas village on May 16 and the wedding will be solemnised in Delhi on May 17. A party will be held in the village on May 18.

According to family sources, the formality to see the bride was done about three months back.

Archana’s father is a Congress leader and said to be close to the Gandhi family. Her uncle is a Congress leader in Muzaffarnagar.

Around 10 days back, Haryana government had allotted a DLF flat in Phase-3 of Gurgaon to Vijender. Preparations are in full swing to get the interiors of the flat completed for the couple.

The state government has also allocated him one plot at Panchkula.

Vijender denies marriage reports

Refuting claims of his marriage, Vijender on Monday denied rumours that he was marrying a Delhi girl next week.

In the Australian city of Darwin to compete in the Arafura Games, where he will fight his first bout on Tuesday against a local hope, the 25-year-old Vijender said the reports of his marriage next week that have come out in some newspaper here, are not true.

"I am not getting married. The reports are not true," Vijender informed from Darwin.

"I don't how this speculation started. Obviously I will get married but not as of now," he added.
