A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar recently in an order made it clear that any authority would not issue fitness certificates to these vintage cars without specific order of the tribunal.
The order came while hearing a plea filed by Madan Mohan, director of 21 Gun Salute International Vintage Car Rally, who had moved the Tribunal seeking permission for the rally.
The bench, which allowed one-time exception to the ban order said, "We make it clear that none of the vintage cars would be otherwise permitted on the roads of NCR, Delhi nor any authority would issue fitness certificates to them without specific order of the Tribunal."
The tribunal would take up the matter of vintage car for hearing on February 25.
On November 26, 2014, it had held that all vehicles which were more than 15 years old would not be permitted to ply on the city roads.
It had also directed that wherever such vehicles of this age are noticed, the authorities concerned shall take appropriate steps in accordance with law including seizure of the vehicles.
