"Imposing President's Rule cannot be demanded based on the incidents that have been reported across the state in the last few days. We have not come across such a situation," he told reporters here apparently replying to a question.

The issue should be handled by the new Government, headed by Chief Minister O Paneerselvam, the Minister, a senior BJP leader from the state, said.

He, however, said police could have controlled the law and order, adding the practice of police acting in favour of ruling party should be stopped.

Earlier, launching the Guaranteed monthly pension under Employees' Pension Scheme 1995 run by the Employees Provident Fund Organization, he said a minimum pension of Rs.1,000 per month for member, widow and disabled pension were part of the changes brought in by the Centre to the scheme.
