Sultanpur: Striking an emotional chord with the people of Sultanpur, BJP’s youngest general secretary Varun Gandhi on Thursday publicly hinted his intentions to contest the next Lok Sabha election from this constituency.

Varun, while making an emotional appeal during party’s 'Swabhiman Rally' in the district, said, “Today I have come to home. I recently lost my first child but now I will embrace all the 8-10 lakh children of the district and will treat them as my own.”

Recounting the relation of his father Sanjay Gandhi with the people of Sultanpur, Varun said that the hands of former Amethi MP (Sanjay) was always with its people. “You had held my father’s hand. Now I want to hold your hand,” he added.

He said a new politics should start from Sultanpur, the impact of which should be felt from Ayodhya to Jaunpur and Pratapgarh, indicating his aim of carving out a way for the saffron party in the region.

While Varun's cousin Rahul Gandhi is Congress MP from Amethi which falls under Sultanpur district, Congress President Sonia Gandhi represents the neighbouring Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency.
