New Delhi: Priyanka Chopra, Bollywood’s vivacious beauty and critically acclaimed actress, turns 29 today. This vivacious Cancerian plans to celebrate her birthday sans all the glitter and party this time in the wake of the Mumbai blasts.

Starting her filmy career from 2001, this small town girl in a very short span of time went on to become one of the leading actresses in Bollywood. She has proved herself in Bollywood on her own without any godfather. Jagranpost tries to trace the journey of this girl-next-door from a small UP town to the glamorous world of the Indian film industry on her 29th birthday.

Priyanka returns from US for her b'day

Her journey started from a small Uttar Pradesh town, Bareli. She got her education from La Martinere girl’s school in Lucknow and then went to Newton South School, Newton, Massachusetts and John F Kennady School for further higher studies. She then came back and continued her education from Army High School in Bareli. Priyanka completed her further education from Jai Hind College in Mumbai.

Priyanka’s father Ashok Chopra and her mother Madhu Akhuri are both physicians by profession. When Priyanka was 17-year-old, her mother sent her portfolios for Miss India beauty pageant. Priyanka was unaware of this and came to know only when she got shortlisted for the beauty contest. She won the contest and became Miss India (1st runner-up) and hence, the odyssey began. She went on to win the Miss World crown at a very ripe age.

Inevitably after winning the crown she took the Bollywood call. Her first debut film was Hero-The Spy in 2001 and in the same year she did Andaaz for which she bagged the Best Debutant Filmfare Award. Hence, Bollywood got this versatile actress.

She topped the chart of refined actors by doing various genres of films like ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ and ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. She received best villain award in 2004 for her film ‘Aitraaz’, a rare feat for a woman in Bollywood. She got a lot of critical acclaimation for Madhur Bhandarkar’s film ‘Fashion’ and further won the Filmfare Best Actress Award and National Award.

Piggy Chops celebrated her last birthday with her friends but this time she is celebrating it in a very simple way in the wake of recent Mumbai blasts.

Besides her work, Priyanka has been in news for her personal affairs as well, the latest being her association with Shahid Kapoor. Their on and off relationship has been a constant talk for the media.

But these trivial matters never bothered her. A woman of substance in the true sense, Priyanka Chopra has nonetheless, carved a niche for herself in Bollywood. Yet this hot siren and ‘Fashion’ista believes in making an ‘Andaaz’ in her own Priyanka Chopra way. For this versatile actress, needless to say even ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. Extending greetings on her birthday, Jagranpost team wishes Priyanka all the best.
