Shirdi: Following instructions from the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, the irrigation department has released 2-tmc water from Bhandardara dam in Ahmednagar district for Marathwada's Jayakwadi dam this morning, sources in the Irrigation Department said.

The water would reach Jayakwadi within couple of days, they said.
The Marathwada region is facing acute shortage of water this year due to poor rains prompting the Chief Minister to order to release water from Bhandardara.

Given that there is a possibility of water being released is consumed by people residing along the way, the authorities have deployed police at key points, sources added.
