Launching these branches at a function at the new state secretariat, state's Finance Minster Amit Mitra welcomed the initiative and hoped more such banks would come forward to cover other remote areas without any banking system.

The state government has provided Canara Bank with premises for the branches at Gram Panchayat (GP) offices at a nominal rent of Rs 1 per annum for a period of ten years.

Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Canara Bank R K Dubey was present on the occasion.

The newly opened branches would cover 12 districts in the state, he said.
