Kolkata: The West Bengal Assembly Standing Committee on Industry on Monday cancelled its tour to Gujarat. The all of a sudden decision by the state government to cancel the trip has left the 10-member committee in an awkward position.

Terming it as an unwise decision, member of the standing committee and senior CPM leader Anisur Rehman said, “We were totally prepared for the Gujarat tour. We had even prepared the blueprint for the tour. The cancellation by the government is beyond comprehension”

According to sources, the committee had decided to tour Gujarat to take a stock of the industrial developments in the state. The ten-member committee, which included six members from the TMC, was to start the tour on Monday. It also had the nod of the Minister of Industry and the Assembly Speaker.

The committee headed by Paresh Adhikari was also planning to visit the Nano factory in Gujarat. Paying a visit to Amul and Reliance factories was also included in the five day programme.
