Kolkata: The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday hailed Pranab Mukherjee being declared as the UPA nominee for the President's post.

With the equations firmly in favour of Mukherjee being elected as the next President, WBPCC chief Pradip Bhattacharya told newspersons "we are very happy that this is the first time a Bengali, a man from Bengal, will become the President.

"Today I am sure that the person who said he is not a man from Bengal, will withdraw these words," he said in reference to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had recently questioned whether Mukherjee was 'a son of the soil' and called him 'a son of the world'.
