"Absolutely, the way we are preparing, those boys (representing India in Under 17 World Cup in 2017) will be the backbone of future Indian teams," AIFF secretary Kushal Das said when asked if that bunch can give the FIFA World Cup a shot in near future.

"We are preparing a competitive Indian team for the Under 17 World Cup. We went to Germany, Spain and qualified for the AFC Under 16 Championships on merit. We are next going to UAE. The core team is more or less the same though Nicolai ( Under 17 coach) is still scouting for a few more players," Das elaborated on plans for the U-17 squad.
FIFA's ceremonial handover of the Under 17 World Cup to India took place earlier this month as the last edition of the tournament concluded in Chile.
Das said the aim is to involve India's youngsters through an initiative called 'Mission 11 million' which is basically focused on 'activation of youth' in the event.
