"I have resigned today. I have sent my resignation letter to the Governor and sent copies of it to the Chief Minister and state Law Minister," said Chatterjee.

Asked about the reason for his resignation, he said "I have not been keeping well for sometime. As such I have resigned on health grounds."

Chatterjee was appointed the state Advocate General in February 2013, after Anindya Mitra, another barrister, had put in his papers.

Mitra had been appointed the state's Advocate General by the Trinamool Congress government after it came to power in May 2011.
