Kolkata: Irked over Centre’s delay in providing financial assistance for health services in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked MPs and MLAs of her party for donations in this regard.

Trinamool Congress supremo and State Health Minister Mamata Banerjee held discussions with the party members and directed the MPs and MLAs to donate Rs 1 crore each and Rs 10 lakh each, respectively.

Though no official information has been received in this connection, but according to sources, Banerjee held meeting regarding sorry state of public health services.

She said lots of funds are required in order to bring urgent improvement in the health services of the state which is why MPs and MLAs have been roped in to contribute fund.

After taking charge as a Chief Minister, Banerjee reviewed the health services in the state and found lack of resources due to financial crunch in hospitals.

She has written to the Prime Minister several times asking for special package for West Bengal, but nothing has been done so far in this regard.

It should be noted that Banerjee has already added Rs 1 crore to the state’s exchequer by selling her painting. Apart from this, she herself paid for the renovation work in her office.

Now, Banerjee wants her party workers to come forward and contribute to improve the situation of the state.
