Kolkata: About a month after 173 people were killed in West Bengal's worst hooch tragedy, prime accused Noor Islam Fakir alias Khonra Badshah (48), surrendered before a local court in Diamond Harbour here on Monday morning at around 10 am. He was remanded to 14 days CID custody.

According to the CID, Badshah was hiding in Ajmer since the incident and later tried to cross West Bengal border to enter Bangladesh.

On December 24, CID sleuths arrested his first wife Sakeela Bibi and close associates Bakreswar Mondal alias Bakkar and Chhotu from Bidyadharpara in Canning area of South 24 Parganas district.

Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered a CID probe following which the investigating agency arrested six persons. However, Badshah’s second wife Angoora Bibi, also an accused in the same case, is still absconding.
