Jammu: In their effort to secure permanent Indian citizenship, West Pakistan refugees have decided to gherao the Parliament. For this, the members of the organization have held several rounds of meetings at Nagri, Kathua and Mishriwala.

Vested interest of the political parties on the issue was discussed in the meetings. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and the founder of the National Conference Sheikh Abdullah had promised for rehabilitation of the West Pakistan refugees who had migrated to India 64 years back.

Refugee leaders said they have been debarred from the permanent citizenship due to the vested interests of the political leaders. They claimed that Sheikh Abdullah had to ensure the basic rights to the refugees before stopping them from rehabilitating in other parts of the country.

The refugee leaders said the issue would be discussed in detail in the next meeting scheduled for September 20 at Swankha.
