The users were pegged at 600 million in August. The company's CEO Jan Koum wrote in a Facebook post that users are sending 30 billion messages per day.

The figure now make WhatsApp one of the world's largest social networks, bigger than Twitter's 284 million or even the photo-sharing service Instagram, which counted 300 million users last month. Facebook itself, however, is still bigger, and tallies 1.3 billion users signing in every month.

WhatsApp can be available on desktop soon

WhatsApp is also planning to launch its desktop version, according to the recent reports.

The reports reveal that the WhatsApp is working on a web version. A recent WhatsApp update (v2.11.471) has mentions of 'WhatsApp Web' within its code.

Further, the code mentions references to logging in/out of computers as well as tracking user statuses online. The report also reveals that the code has no mention of Facebook as such, indicating that users might not need to log into the web-based service via their respective Facebook accounts.

According to the Dutch website, ‘WhatsApp Web’ has been mentioned inside the code of a recent WhatsApp update. However, there is still no official word from WhatsApp regarding the matter.

Hide 'blue tick- Read Receipts' feature!

WhatsApp offers an option to disable the 'Read Receipts' feature which facilitates the users to know when their messages are being read by the the receiver.

The notification feature which came in the form of 'double blue ticks' was not received positively by many of the users. The users considered it a hindrance to their privacy as the feature devoided them of ignoring the messages.

For damage control, WhatsApp has now introduced the feature to hide ‘Read Receipts’. Once this feature is enabled, the receiver will not be able to see the blue tick marks even if you have read the messages.

The feature is available only those users who have downloaded new beta version of the app in their android handsets. The users will have to manually download the WhatsApp 2.11.44 version as it is only available on the official website and hasn’t been released on Google Play Store.

To disable the feature, one has to go to the privacy option in his/her app settings and disable the 'Read Receipts' option.
